The film our competing students need to view and be able to write about is (no surprise) Apollo 13. After several months of reading the script, studying the Apollo missions and then watching the film, most of my students who've watched the film feel it offers a better and more accurate look at the intricacies of space travel much more effectively than The Right Stuff (we read the book, however). Any time Ron Howard and Brian Grazer team up, you're going to have a phenominal movie. Then you have such an amazing cast as Tom Hanks, Gary Siniese, Ed Harris, Kevin Bacon, Bill Baxton, Xander Berkley, this movie was bound to be a great american classic. Not only did Howard capture the importance of the Nasa and the Apollo 13 mission, but also with what was going on at home, with the family members, the media, etc. I haven't seen a movie this good about the American Space Program since The Right Stuff. I just hope my work at http://www.artbymarilyn.net is well received because my peacocks will be in a major motion picture with the timeless "Cher" and "Kristina" in "BURLESQUE" . Soooo...go see it and buy some of my work as it will be memorabilia. Great story, great history amazing men and women to learn about. I was very impressed with the overall project. It will always get my vote as #2 most historical after Apollo 13. Never saw your choices. I will definatly have to have a look at them. I hear they are really good though. A couple pop to mind. I thought "Gettysburg" was pretty accurate. And, more recently, I was surprised by the detail they got into with "Public Enemies"...down to filming in the very same hotel rooms that Dillinger was in. Other movies? It seems like The American Film Co wants to make movies that will give people only historically accurate information... When The Conspirator comes out, I think it would be interesting to get your take on how they did! I loved the topic and went WAY overboard with the research. Not only did I show the inaccuracies in film, but the second half of it was the impact it has on a movie going generation. I saw how much of the fiction that is added into film was actually believed by college students. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot, plus it earned me my degree, so yeah thanks for asking! It was very interesting. That seems like a really interesting thesis! Apollo 13 was the most accurate movie of the 4 I chose to analyze. I think it is amazing that they were able to keep the movie interesting without changing the facts or twisting the truth. With minor liberties taken this has got to be one of the greatest examples of what Hollywood could do if they kept the true tale of they subjects they attempt to portray. Here is a picture of the real control room... It looks just like the movie version! The story of the paratroopers in "Easy Company" as they fight their way across France and into Germany is riveting. For those of you who are looking for truth in history, you should be watching "The Pacific" now on HBO. Episode no. 2 was last night, and featured Marine Sgt. John Basilone, the first enlisted Marine to be awarded the Medal of Honor in World War II. A great job of developing that theme, primarily through the eyes of Jim Lovell's wife.
