Starring Zac Efron (THE PAPERBOY), Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden (MYSTIC RIVER), Academy Award winner Billy Bob Thornton (SLING BLADE), Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver (SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK) and Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti (THE IDES OF MARCH), PARKLAND has been given a October 4, 2013 U.S. theatrical release date through Exclusive Media's distribution label, Exclusive Releasing.
Produced by Playtone Partners' Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, Bill Paxton, Exclusive Media's Nigel Sinclair and Matt Jackson, and Executive Produced by The American Film Company's Joe Ricketts and Brian Falk, PARKLAND is based on the book "Four Days In November," by renowned author and former prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi. The adapted screenplay is written by award-winning journalist and novelist Peter Landesman, who is making his directorial debut. The American Film Company also produces and co-finances the film.
PARKLAND, the heart-stopping and never-before-told story of the real people behind the scenes of one of the most scrutinized events in history, the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, will have its World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival where it will screen in competition and its North American Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival as a Gala Presentation.
"The stars aligned perfectly when making Parkland and the exceptional cast and crew have come together to make an extraordinary and intelligent film that engages directly with audiences," said producer Gary Goetzman.
Head of Exclusive Releasing, Matt Brodlie said: "Parkland tells the definitive account of the untold events that took place on that infamous day 50 years ago when JFK was assassinated - it's a unique and compelling story about the characters at the heart of the inexplicable drama that unfolded before their eyes. It's a rare, intelligent, quality film that sets its self apart from other thrillers."
Additional cast members include James Badge Dale (SHAME), Academy Award nominee Jackie Earle Haley (LINCOLN), Colin Hanks (THE GUILT TRIP), David Harbour (END OF WATCH), Golden Globe nominee Ron Livingston (OFFICE SPACE), Jeremy Strong (ZERO DARK THIRTY) and Tom Welling (DRAFT DAY).
Recounting the chaotic events that occurred in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, PARKLAND weaves together the perspectives of a handful of ordinary individuals suddenly thrust into extraordinary circumstances: the young doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital; Dallas' chief of the Secret Service; an unwitting cameraman who captured what became the most watched and examined film in history; the FBI agents who nearly had the gunman within their grasp; the brother of Lee Harvey Oswald, left to deal with his shattered family; and JFK's security team, witnesses to both the president's death and Vice President Lyndon Johnson's rise to power over a nation whose innocence was forever altered.
