The 35th Toronto International Film Festival announced today an all-star lineup of gala premieres and special presentations, including the world premiere of The American Film Company's debut film THE CONSPIRATOR, directed by Academy Award© winner Robert Redford.
“On the occasion of our 35th anniversary, we are thrilled to announce this selection of important and notable films,” said Piers Handling, Director and CEO of the festival
THE CONSPIRATOR stars James McAvoy, Robin Wright, Academy Award© winner Kevin Kline, Evan Rachel Wood, and Academy Award© nominee Tom Wilkinson. The film tells the true story of a young union war hero who must defend a mother accused of aiding her son in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.

Nominations for the 62nd Annual Emmy Awards were announced live this morning at 8:30AM EST. Among the nominees were THE PACIFIC, GLEE, YOU DON’T KNOW JACK and TRUE BLOOD, all of which feature actors from THE CONSPIRATOR.
THE PACIFIC received 24 total nominations, the most of any series this year. HBO’s 10-part miniseries tells the story of three American Marines fighting in Japan during World War II. James Badge Dale (THE CONSPIRATOR’s “Hamilton”) earned rave reviews for his role as Robert Leckie in the series. The series will compete in the Outstanding Miniseries category, among others.
Freshman hit GLEE follows THE PACIFIC with the second most total nominations (19), including a bid for Outstanding Comedy Series. The musical comedy featured Jonathan Groff (“Louis Weichmann”) in seven episodes this spring as the glee club’s immensely talented rival, Jesse St. James.
YOU DON’T KNOW JACK, HBO’s TV movie about Dr. Jack Kevorkian, received 15 nominations, including Outstanding Made for Television Movie. Danny Huston (“JAG Holt”) plays Kevorkian’s defense attorney, Geoffrey Fieger, in the film.
HBO’s TRUE BLOOD enters the Emmy race for its second season, vying for Outstanding Drama Series. The supernatural hit features Evan Rachel Wood (“Anna Surratt”) in the integral role of Queen Sophie-Anne, one of Louisiana’s oldest vampires.
The Emmy Awards will air live August 29, 2010 on NBC.

THE CONSPIRATOR star James McAvoy has signed on to play the young Charles Xavier (Professor X) in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS for FOX. Patrick Stewart played the role in the original X-MEN trilogy.
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS tells the origin story of Charles Xavier and Eric Lensherr, before they became bitter archenemies Professor X and Magneto. The film will chronicle the growing rift between the once-close friends and classmates. So far, audiences have made blockbusters of the three X-MEN films that detail the power struggle between these two men. The role of Eric Lensherr/Magneto has not yet been cast.
Matthew Vaughn (KICK-ASS, LAYER CAKE) is set to direct and Bryan Singer (X-MEN, X2) will produce alongside Laura Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.
The film will begin production in London this summer and is set for a June 3, 2011 release.

Take a look at some of the upcoming projects for the cast of THE CONSPIRATOR...
Evan Rachel Wood (“Anna Surratt”) will co-star in the HBO remake of the film MILDRED PIERCE, alongside Academy Award winner Kate Winslet, Brian F. O’Byrne, Melissa Leo, and Guy Pierce. The five-part miniseries depicts a single mother (Winslet) struggling to maintain a loving relationship with her daughter (Wood) during the Great Depression. Todd Haynes (FAR FROM HEAVEN) will direct the series. Wood recently became available for the film after withdrawing from the forthcoming Broadway production of “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.”
Jonathan Groff (“Louis Weichmann”) is set to make his West End stage debut in “Deathtrap.” Directed by Matthew Warchus, the Tony Award-nominated Groff will star alongside Simon Russell Beale and Anna Massey in this Ira Levin thriller. Groff is currently co-starring on the FOX television hit “Glee,” alongside his “Spring Awakening” co-star Lea Michelle. His appearance on the show has coincided with record-setting ratings for the musical comedy.
Colm Meaney (“General Hunter”) is currently shooting Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod’s BEL AMI. Filming on location in London and Budapest, the movie features an all-star cast, including Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Christina Ricci. Set in 1890’s Paris, BEL AMI tells the story of a young social climber’s (Robert Pattinson) rags-to-riches story.

Here is what your favorite actors from THE CONSPIRATOR are working on next:
Robin Wright (“Mary Surratt”) is set to make her Broadway debut in a revival of Langford Wilson’s comedy “Talley’s Folly” during the 2010-2011 season. Wright will play a rebellious Missouri woman courted by a Jewish accountant, played by Richard Schiff (“The West Wing”). No specific show dates or theater details have been announced.
Kevin Kline (“Secretary Stanton”) has signed on to star and executive produce in an hour-long series for HBO. Kline will play a surgeon who must start a new life after serving a 15-year jail sentence for murdering his mistress. The project will be written by David Auburn (“Proof”). This is the first television series for Kline (an Academy Award winner for A FISH CALLED WANDA).
Danny Huston (JAG Holt) will join sister Angelica in presenting “Hollywood Dynasty: The Hustons” at the TCM Classic Film Festival on April 24. The tribute will include screenings of several films (including their father John Huston’s film THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE) and feature a question-and-answer session with the two actors.
James Badge Dale (Hamilton) has received widespread critical acclaim for his leading role in HBO’s 10-part series “The Pacific.” Airing on Sunday nights, Dale plays Private Robert Leckie, a young Irish-American Marine who enlists shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The Hollywood Reporter writes “Praiseworthy performances are so abundant that it might be unfair to single out any one actor. That said, it would be hard not to take special note of Dale's work as Leckie, perhaps the most pivotal role because of the insight the character brings to so many situations. Not once does Dale falter.”
